As you may very well know by now, nearly every industry at this time is being impacted by delays. Whether you’re trying to buy a sofa, stove, pool, or vehicle, you’re probably going to be shocked by the timelines presented to you, and the building/remodeling industry is no exception. Unfortunately, we are being heavily affected by material delays and availability issues.
If you are interested in remodeling your home soon, these are just a few of the things you should be doing now:
1. If you have a timeline goal, get in touch with a remodeler right away. It may be hard to believe, but if you want that new deck space for next summer or a new kitchen for 2022 the holiday season, you’ll need to get the ball rolling…yesterday.
2. When you’re reviewing potential materials, always ask the question, “is this in stock?” or, “what is the lead time on this item?”. Whether it’s decking, lighting, plumbing, or countertops some items are difficult to secure. You want to be sure you’re not delaying completion by choosing something that requires waiting months for one particular item if the rest of your materials are on site.
3. Some appliances are tricky to get at the moment, and certain brands/models have longer lead times! Start looking today, have your favorites selected for when you first meet with your designer and place your order as soon as possible!
4. Anticipate everything taking longer (maybe even significantly longer) than you originally thought. Going into a project with this mindset will set realistic expectations, minimize disappointments, and create an overall more pleasant remodeling experience. Lastly, know that hiring the RIGHT team for your project will help you navigate through all of the above.
